New to Faith?
A Guide for the Perplexed

What to expect when you arrive

Take Sunday off!
And join us for worship, 10:15-11:30 am, at the Northampton Township Senior Center in Richboro.

How should I dress?
Come as you are. Dress style is casual.

What should I do when I arrive?
A greeter will meet you at the door and hand you a bulletin. Find any seat and feel free to sit quietly and pray, or, if you are new to Faith, familiarize yourself with the bulletin, which contains everything you will need for the service, as well as announcements concerning upcoming events and activities in the life of our church.

What about my children?
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." (Matthew 19:14) Children of all ages are welcome at the worship service, though for the really little ones (five and under) nursery care is available throughout the entire service. Kids stand and sing with the adults and participate with them during the first half of the service. Then, for the second half, they are dismissed to age-appropriate Sunday School classes (for age 2 through grade 6). If you would like your child or children to participate in the Sunday School program, mention it to the greeters when you first arrive, and they'll give you guidance on what to do.

What if my child gets fussy?
We like children and don't mind a little noise. If the volume increases and you think it best, you may choose to bring your child next door to the nursery. There are always Children's Ministry Team members available to help.

What if I'm late?
You're welcome whenever you arrive! We only ask that if a prayer is being spoken or if Scripture is being read that you wait to find your seat until it is completed.

What am I supposed to do during the offering?
If you're a visitor to our church, please don't feel pressured to give any money during the offering. Just take the basket when it's handed to you and pass it along to the person next to you. Or better: fill out the Visitor card in the bulletin and place that in the basket as it goes by. On the back of the Visitor card is a Prayer Request form. You're welcome to fill that out as well if you've got something you would like the pastor and elders to pray for. (Note that they will be available to you following the service to speak and pray with you on request.)

How often do you celebrate the Lord's Supper?
On the first Sunday of each month.

What is the sacrament of the Lord's Supper?
At his last meal with his disciples Jesus shared bread and wine with them and asked them to continue to do so in remembrance of him. The Lord's Supper, therefore, is a sacrament -- a visible representation of an invisible reality -- which was instituted by our Lord himself for our blessing and benefit. It is the covenant renewal meal of the faithful, by which disciples of Jesus reaffirm their faith in him as Lord and Savior and acknowledge the sober reality at the heart of all we are and do as a community of faith -- that Jesus gave his life for sinners like us. By eating the bread and drinking of the cup, followers of Jesus proclaim their personal faith in him anew, remembering his death, celebrating his life and reign, and acknowledging the new life and new community which Jesus' sacrifice has purchased for us.

May I receive Communion?
The Communion is a meal for those who have been baptized and set their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. If you have not yet set your faith in Jesus and been baptized, then just remain seated when the time comes for your row to come forward. But from your seat, be sure to observe the sacrament and meditate on the meaning of what you are seeing (per the paragraph above). During the Communion, you may also want to read this prayer.

What if I should feel led during the service (or any time) to set my trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior?
Contact the pastor and he will speak and pray with you any time.

How do I meet people after the service?
You are welcome to join us for the Fellowship Time following the service, from 11:30 am-12:30 pm. Each week, some person or family in the church brings snacks and beverages for the congregation to enjoy, and we remain for a while informally talking, catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. Also, on the "First Sunday" of each month there is a luncheon following the communion service, from 12:45-2:15 pm, where food and conversation can be enjoyed in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. This is a great opportunity for visitors to meet the pastor and other members of the church (and vice versa).

We're looking forward to seeing you this Sunday. Welcome!

Our Worship:
"Young and Ancient"

All that hath life and breath
Come now with praises before Him!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

J.R.R. Tolkien once described spring as something “young and ancient.” This provides a wonderful template for the worship and culture of Faith Church. We are joyful, energetic, Spirit-filled, and excited about the faith we confess. But that youthful energy is joined inseparably to theological, confessional, and liturgical structures which are ancient in their glorious orthodoxy.

At Faith Presbyterian Church we strive to combine the new and the ancient, the beautiful and the profound, the accessible and the rigorous, the freedom of the Spirit and the rootedness in the covenant, the intellectual and the emotional, the head and the heart, and so on.

Accordingly, we are seriously committed to the Lordship of Christ over all areas of our lives and to the authority of his Word. That is, we are orthodox in our faith and practice, being firmly grounded in the great creedal and confessional truths of historic Christianity.

At the same time, however, we are self-consciously evangelistic – we are committed to never becoming a closed society, but rather to remaining an open community, being sure always to send a welcoming message of invitation to any and all who would come to learn more of the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
