Volunteer Opportunities

The following is a list of some of the voluteer opportunities at Fatih Presbyterian Church.

English as Second Language (ESL)

Jennifer Hogg, Director of ESL/NCC Phlly

Our church is pleased to participate in the English as Second Language (ESL) program hosted by our sister congregation of Northeast Community Church in the Mayfair section of Phiadelphia. Fall semester classes are held Mondays-Thursdays throughout the course of the school year. 225 men and women have already signed up for classes, and there's a waiting list of many more! Several members of this church have signed on to serve as volunteer teachers or teacher assistants. But more volunteers are needed! If you are interested in joining with others in this important service to our communities, or would simply like more information, please contact Pastor Jules. Or for more detailed information about this ministry, visit http://esl.nccphilly.org/the-church.

Worship Setup Teams

Bob Reiser, Coordinator

Worship Setup Teams assist in the preparation of the facility for Sunday worship each week by setting up and storing the necessary equipment. All members and regular attendees are invited to participate in this ministry on a rotating basis throughout the year.

Greeters

Mike McCormick, Coordinator

The Greeter Ministry consists of volunteers who welcome those attending each worship service. Greeters extend a warm welcome to visitors and regular attenders. They distribute bulletins and other information pertaining to the worship service and upcoming church activities, and oversee seating arrangements. Greeters also encourage visitors to sign the Welcome Book. Most importantly, this ministry provides the important first contact with those the Lord is leading to us by being friendly, answering questions and helping new attenders to feel comfortable.

Hospitality

Ellen Dougherty, Coordinator

The Hospitality Ministry encourages fellowship among the congregation each Sunday. Following the worship service, light snacks and refreshments are provided by a rotating list of volunteers to encourage a friendly atmosphere for social interaction and an opportunity for visitors to meet with regular attenders in an informal setting. This is a great job for newcomers to Faith.

First Sunday

Virginia Grisham, Coordinator

The First Sunday Ministry plans for and organizes the monthly Communion Sunday luncheons that we enjoy immediately following the worship service. Members and friends are encouraged to bring food for the feast!

Meals Ministry

Tricia Wittekind, Coordinator
with Dawn Clydesdale and Virginia Grisham

The Meals Ministry is designed to assist families in distress with meals. This is an important mercy ministry of this church, and all members and friends are welcome to provide food.

Care Ministry (Deacons)

Jeff MacKay, Coordinator

Through the Care Ministry we seek to demonstrate the love of Christ to each other and to others, both during difficult times of need and on joyous occasions. We provide meals for those who are sick, in need, or upon the birth of a baby. On behalf of the congregation, we arrange for gifts to be given at baptisms, to honor graduates, to express our love to members who are moving, and to bless and thank our staff at Christmas time. We can and do provide financial assistance to those in need, upon request and interview. Our purpose is to show God’s love to one another in a tangible way, as well as in prayer. This ministry is funded solely by contributions made by the congregation. These funds can be given at any time and designated for "Care." The Christmas Eve and Good Friday offerings have been specifically designated for this purpose.

Fellowship Events

Tim Clydesdale, Event Coordinator,
with the Deacons

At various times of the year we have special events to promote friendship among our members, regular attenders, and recent guests. Volunteer help is always needed and appreciated.

There are many volunteer opportunities that are not listed here, e.g., participation in the Music Ministry (whether playing on the Worship Team, or sharing your gifts on one of the musical ensembles, or helping out with the Sound Team, for any of which interested persons should speak to Rachel MacKay, Director of Music Ministry); as well as numerous opportunities for service in Mercy Ministry (whether participating with Mission to North America's Disaster Relief teams throughout the region or lending one's helping hands to any number of other situations, for which the Deacons should be contacted).
