Women of Faith Prayer Conference:
"Prayer Changes Me" Saturday, November 12

Join us this Saturday, November 12, 9:30 am-2:30 pm, at the Mattes' home, for a time of teaching, prayer, and fellowship, featuring Mary Ruth Murdoch and Joan Mattes as the speakers. Mary Ruth will lead two morning sessions, teaching on Jeremiah's prayer journal and on Jesus' High Priestly Prayer in John 17. After lunch, we will hear from our own (wonderful!) Joan Mattes who will lead a session on how to start your own prayer journal and will share insights and wisdom from her years as a prayer warrior. Light breakfast and lunch will be served. Please RSVP to the Faith Women's Ministry Team.

Our speaker: Many of you will remember Mary Ruth Murdoch from our last retreat. She is the PCA regional coordinator for women's ministry. She is the author of the book Raising a Christian Daughter in an MTV World, and has years of experience in both campus and women's ministries. She holds a BS in Family Development from the University of Georgia, and an MAR from Westminster Theological Seminary. She and her husband have three daughters.

Inquirers Class, Week 4
Sunday, November 13

If you're interested in joining Faith Presbyterian Church or in learning more about our doctrine and ministry, you're invited to attend the Inquirers Class this fall. The class will meet at the church prior to the worship service for five consecutive Sundays, October 23-November 20, 9:05-9:50 am. Attendance at all five of these classes is required for any who desire to join Faith Church, whether by initial profession of faith in Jesus Christ or by letter of transfer from another church; and is encouraged for all those seeking to deepen their understanding of the faith they already confess.

On Sunday, December 3, all those who've completed the course and wish to become members will be presented before the congregation and received into the membership of Faith Presbyterian Church. At that time, any among this group who have never been baptized will receive the sacrament.

Communicants Service
Sunday, December 3

Every year, we offer a Communicants Class for interested sixth graders who desire to learn more about the faith we confess and the rights and obligations of membership in a Christian community (or, as the Westminster Confession puts it, "what man is to believe concerning God" and "what duties God requires of man"). Participation in the Communicants Class is required for those children of member parents who wish to become communing members of Faith Church, i.e., those who have been baptized and profess personal faith in Jesus Christ, who are henceforth welcome and encouraged to partake of the Lord's Supper with their parents and fellow members of the Body of Christ. The class will meet on three successive Sunday afternoons, 5:00-6:00 am, at the same time and location as the youth group, followed by two weeks of individual meetings between prospective communicants and the pastor and representatives of the Session (November 6 and 13). Then, finally, on Sunday, December 3, we will have the Commmunicants Service at which new communing members of Faith Church will celebrate the Lord's Supper with other congregants.

Children's Parents Meeting
Sunday, December 11

All parents of children from infants through grade 5 are invited a special Children's Parents Meeting, Sunday, December 11, 12:30-2:00 pm, at the Grishams' home. This will be a time to meet with Pastor Jules and to discuss and pray about goals and directions for the children's ministry of our church moving forward (including nursery, Sunday School, and other children's activities). As was said about the youth ministry above, so too especially with the Children's Ministry: this meeting is enormously important, because your input and feedback is essential to the process -- all the more so in that, one of the great advantages of being a smaller-sized congregation is that we can intentionally shape our program to reflect the particular needs, excellencies, and/or special circumstances of our kids (and of your families). It's not just a program that runs along of its own accord, in abstraction from the kids it serves. The very structure of what we do is shaped by the needs of our families (you!), as we seek most optimally to achieve our mandate of "graduating" mature, equipped, committed young Christian men and women, who are prepared to participate and serve as and with other adults in the church. And that's why your feedback and input is so essential!

Most importantly, this meeting will be an opportunity to pray as the family of Faith for our children, for their spiritual growth and development in the coming year; for one another; and for our program, and our church, as a whole. So please mark the date on your calendars and plan to attend!

English as Second Language (ESL) Classes
Every week, Monday-Thursday Evenings

Our congregation provides volunteer support for the English as Second Language (ESL) classes being offered through our sister congregation of Northeast Community Church in the Mayfair section of Phiadelphia. Classes are held throughout the course of the week, Mondays through Thursdays, through the school year. 225 men and women have already signed up for classes, and there's a waiting list of many more! Several members of this church have signed on to serve as volunteer teachers or teacher assistants. But more volunteers are needed! If you are interested in joining with others in this important service to our communities, or would simply like more information, please contact Pastor Jules; and for more detailed information about this ministry, visit http://esl.nccphilly.org/the-church.

Faith Church Music Ensembles

Have you ever desired to sing the bass line in a hymn? Or anything beside the melody line? This is your chance to learn how to do it! We are pleased to invite you to a new ministry of this church, called Bass Camp, Sunday mornings prior to the worship service, 9:30-9:45 am (seasonal), at the Senior Center, during which Music Director Rachel MacKay teaches the different vocal parts for that Sunday's hymn.

Faith Church has a number of music ensembles which practice at various times. The Faith Holiday Choir, our 22-member vocal ensemble, and the Faith Quartet, our vocal quartet with strings accompaniment, sing at worship services through the course of the year. Relentless Faith, our youth jazz ensemble, practices on Thursday nights at the Wittekinds’ home, 8:06 pm (next meeting: this Tuesday, November 9); and Seasons Strings, our youth violin-and-viola ensemble, practices on Sunday evenings following the end of the youth group for several weeks prior to each performance. If you’re interested in sharing your vocal gifts and singing to God’s glory and praise, or if you’d like to share your gifts in instrumental music, please contact Rachel MacKay, Director of Music Ministry.
